It was 3:07 in the morning when I heard the first strange sound coming from my bedroom window.
At first, I thought it was probably the wind. It had been raining earlier that evening, and the trees outside were moving gently in the darkness. I tried to ignore the noise, pulled the blanket closer, and closed my eyes again.
Then I heard it a second time.
A faint scraping sound came from the window, followed by what seemed like someone gently touching the glass. I sat up immediately and listened carefully. The house was completely quiet, except for the occasional ticking of the clock in the hallway.
I looked toward the window, but the curtains were closed. I couldn’t see anything outside.
For a few seconds, I tried to convince myself that there was a reasonable explanation. Perhaps a branch was brushing against the glass, or something had been blown against the house by the wind.
But then came another sound.
This time, it was unmistakable: someone appeared to be moving something near the window.
